Olive grove wedding in Lefkada

2020 has been a long, strange year – we are very thankful for all the happy moments spent with our wedding couples in Lefkada.

Love will find a way – said Eirini and Chris and not even covid-19 could stop them from getting married in Lefkada, Greece.

They looked for a Lefkada wedding photographer capturing raw emotions, meaningful moments as well as the genuine atmosphere and pretty details of their wedding day.

After the touching orthodox ceremony, the reception took place in the ancient olive grove of Eleonas the wedding garden. The cinematic scenery and magical atmosphere was created by the talented wedding team of Your Lefkada Wedding.

Have a look on their teaser photos below…

‘You’ve found a second chance at love and what’s more beautiful than that? ‘

The great thing about storytelling wedding photography is that each wedding is a completely different, unpredictable, emotionally new experience for me as an observer.

One of my favourite stories this year was Michel and Floortje’s wedding in Lefkas. They arrived from from the Netherlands to Lefkada with two of her and three of his kids to celebrate their marriage at Pavezzo Country Retreat.

Their story shows that life offers second chances, uniting people in new families.
We have all ups and downs but getting over some difficult periods we can embrace the good and truly enjoy the bright side of life.

I was impressed how these two appreciate the luck of having each other and express their emotions… It was a day of mature love and pure emotions.

May your marriage be a gift to your families, as your love is a gift to you two.

What does ‘glamour meets photojournalism’ mean?

Our slogan says ‘glamour meets photojournalism’ – but what does it actually mean?

What is wedding photojournalism?

Wedding photojournalism is a way of photography that captures the events of the wedding day naturally and represents candid, unposed photos. These images capture strong emotions and fleeting moments. Photojournalism tells a story and is the most powerful way of recording a wedding day. The result is the best natural images that will evoke memories of your wedding, your friends and your family long into the next generation.

Is it a style? No, it is more than that.  This is an approach…

As photojournalists what is our approach?

First of all we try and learn a bit about you. It’s our belief that a wedding story must be told in a personal and customized way.

As photographic storytellers, we love being an observer of real life, we capture events spontaneously to emphasize moments and emotions, in order to present the story of your day through the photographs.

As professionals we don’t want to direct your wedding day like a circus ringmaster. It’s important to us not to overshadow and interrupt the precious moments you are sharing with your family and friends. We want those to unfold in a natural way. We know that the most important moments happen ‘hidden’ and we are trained and quick enough to capture them.

It’s the little touches, glances and smiles which make a story alive and moments, humor and different characters make every wedding special. Moments captured candidly take you right back to the day of your wedding and evoke its genuine atmosphere. The beauty of candid wedding photography lies in the natural reactions of the people.
While wedding trends come and go, these honest photos reflecting real emotions will never go out of style, these are timeless.

We also know that a wedding is a glamorous event and you want to look your best in the photos. We pay attention to details and atmospheric shots which complete the story of the day. We also take family and couple portraits as a part of the storybook.

Photojournalism, traditional or a blended approach?

Which one is the right for you?
That definitely depends on you and your partner’s personality and how much you want your wedding day to be guided by your photographer.

Here are some comparison highlights

WEDDING PHOTOJOURNALISM
documentary approach
captures magical moments in real-time
people are un-posed
tells the story without intervention
grabs hidden shots, in between moments
prefers natural light
larger number of photos

TRADITIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY
directs their shots and guides people
creates moments with intervention
set backgrounds, pose people
prefer to follow a scheduled shot list
smaller number of photos taken

We typically blend wedding photojournalism and lifestyle portraiture. Our specialty is doing both, seamlessly in order to tell love stories authentically with glamourous touch and love… and this way ‘glamour meets photojournalism’.

Pre-wedding photoshoots in Lefkada

lefkada wedding

The biggest hesitation couples have about their wedding day is how they’ll look in photos. Cameras have the magical ability to either make us love or hate how we look. Angles, positioning, lighting, and facial expressions all contribute to how you will appear in a photo. Pre-wedding sessions can help a lot to be more chill in those photos. And that makes all the difference.

pre-wedding session in Lefkada

1. Pre-wedding photoshoots help to ease feelings of awkwardness

“But I am so awkward in photos, I always look bad. I hate getting my photo taken.” This is the most common thing I hear from my couples during the consultations.
Feeling comfortable is the key for acting natural in front of the camera, and pre-wedding photoshoots can help a lot.

Pre-wedding sessions give you a chance to work with your photographer and get rid of those camera nerves. This is going to allow you to feel comfortable with the photographer pointing a camera at you, gives an idea of being photographed and what to expect on your wedding day. Furthermore, it gives your photographer a chance to make you feel at ease and give you hints and tips.

Don’t feel bad. Of my hundreds of couples, just a few felt comfortable in front of a camera immediately. You are totally normal! But trust me when I say, it usually takes no more than 5-10 minutes to feel completely at ease, which will reflect in your photos.

2. Get to know your photographer, and help them get to know you

Think of it this way, your photographer will be by your side for 10-12 hours on your wedding day. Capturing the most intimate moments of your life on camera for you and your family to remember forever. Do you really want to trust that to a stranger?
Probably the most important reason for a pre-wedding photoshoot is simply: to establish a comfort level between the couple and the photographer… What better way to work this out than shooting before the big day? Take a chance to get to know each other. On my pre-wedding photo shoots I like to go for a coffee or take some food and maybe some drinks, and take the time to chat and really get to know my couples on a more personal level. Lefkada offers many possibilities for engagement and wedding photography.

3. Pre-wedding photoshoots give you beautiful images to use on stationary

This one almost goes without saying. Pre-wedding photo shoots give you photos that can be used for wedding stationery making it more personal.
You can also use them as a good gift idea for parents or just use them framed on your wall to remember these days.

Lefkada offers various locations for having amazing engagement or wedding photos with breathtaking background.

Why do a pre-wedding photoshoot?
Hopefully by now you realised the importance in having a pre-wedding photoshoot. Many couples who have done these shoots with me have stated “it gave us confidence, at least we knew how our photographer would be” and that “we didn’t realise it would be so fun, can’t wait to do it again!” The reasons to get a pre-wedding photoshoot, engagement photoshoot, engagement session, whatever you want to call it are numerous.  If you want to  learn more, please contact me and I would be glad to help in any way.

Barefoot beach wedding with vibrant colors

Barefoot brides, this one is for you!

For months we’ve been dreaming about warmer days, barefoot weddings and the sound of crashing waves…
Last September heading to a beach wedding I passed by Avali Cantine and immediately fell in love with its vibes. That’s where this styled shoot got inspired by. When conceptualizing the shoot we wanted  to create an atmosphere that truly reflects the breathtaking environment and chill-out atmosphere of the location. The spirit of Avali Cantine comes  both from the pure nature and the owner, Nefeli, who surrounds guests with love, hospitality and soul food… it’s a relaxed, yet magical experience with the perfect backdrop of sun and sea.

After dreaming up all the elements of the style concept, we called up a few of  Your Lefkada Wedding team providers to wave their magic wands and turn our vision into a reality.

Lefkada is an ideal island for beach weddings and the boho style fits perfectly with the Ionian’s blue.  The colorful flowers were an exciting contrast to the lovely ‘Lefkada-blue’ sea and sand, while the stunning crop-topped wedding dress was just the right choice for this summery scenery. The hair and make-up were designed to give the bride an enhanced and natural look.

The gold cuttlery and pretty details of table setting created a stylish yet natural look. Mmmm and those finger foods! Tastes and serving were the art of culinary creativity, really!

The lovely couple is our real couple, marrying this summer as we wanted to see (as always) real emotions and joy on the pictures.
Enjoy!

Porto Katsiki with pretty pastels

Have you ever wondered why you love the beach so much?

From the sound of the waves, to the salty wind and the hot sun you can also forget the whole world…
When you are walking by the sea, enjoying the water and the sand under your feet, it’s hard to imagine there’s a world out there where you have to-do lists, noisy and busy days…but on the beach its only you and pureness of mother nature…
This is why a beach is a perfect location for an intimate wedding… even out of the main touristic season in Lefkada!

If you’re brainstorming beach wedding ideas you have many choices when it comes to the color palette. But now that spring has sprung, we have pretty pastels on the brain!

Pastels blend together to create a delicate, cohesive color scheme that complements a romantic wedding theme, from your bouquet to your sweet and beautiful meringue favors.

Have you ever wondered that this wedding couple could be you…

Wedding in Lefkada with happiness bubbles

I wish I had time to write the story of each couple … of course it is on my eternal to-do list … at least I will not be bored in my retirement years. 🙂

I would like to write about all of them, because in our profession, meeting new people and listening their stories is one of the most interesting and beautiful parts of the job. On the wedding day, we see them being happy … but we don’t know the details of their journey that lead them to this significant moment in their lives … Each couple has an individual story and I believe it is very important to understand it, so from the photography point of view I can give them a more personal outcome.

The story of the Noemi and Dani is close to me. Whilst a big wedding offers more challenges and photography themes for a photojournalist, a two-person wedding where they simply follow their dream can be very intimate. Our wedding team gets more involved, filling the roles traditionaly taken by family and friends. The makeup artist and the hairdresser become the excited and emotional girlfriends as they help Noemi prepare, the wedding organiser takes the role of the mum, taking care of every detail… and the photographer… she has butterflies in her stomach, like the father, looking forward to Dani’s reaction for the first look at Noemi.

Noemi and Dani were childhood sweethearts, growing up together, standing side by side through good and bad for eleven years … as Noemi explainded to me ‘we are a small island in our world and Greece is a part of this small island. We have been traveling these last three years, just the two of us, exploring the Greek islands and paying attention only to each other. No stress and worries… just relaxing and enjoying the sea and the sun. We knew we wanted to keep the wedding day in this mood so that we could say afterwards, it was really OUR wedding. No fuss; only us and our emotions. ‘

Their travels and love of Greece led them to request an olive grove as their venue and as it is well known by you all,  you don’t have to ask me twice to go there 🙂 . As wedding fashions change you may tire of photos taken in olive groves but I will still escape to these quiet havens on the hillside to take photos there.  It is an eternal love for me; watching the light flow through the many small leaves of these ancient trees, where it seems to form an iridescent mist… the only sound is the rustle underfoot of the sundried yellow grass and of course the cicada’s song in the background … oh … how my mind wings away :)) …

Quoting Noemi as she described it to me so beautifully; ‘The olive grove reminds me of the past. An olive tree as it gets older, gets more rugged. It is a real survivor, incredibly strong, hard wood. Without wanting to over romanticise it, we felt that a pledge made here surrounded by these trees is a symbol of the solid, honest and very close relationship between us…
Finally, I want to share with you about one of my personal favourite details of the day;  the wreath decoration with glass baubles made by Noemi with Daniel’s help. Seriously, I do not believe how it made it intact the 1500 km car journey from Hungary to Lefkada!

Noemi saw a similar decoration and decided they could create a one themselves for their wedding dinner. During the autumn Dani cut off branches from the willow tree in their garden and Noemi wove them into a wreath. The night before their wedding they hung the glass bubbles on it together. It was a beautiful match to the simple, natural decoration of the wedding.

Like Noemi and Dani, these glass baubles had transformed from individual objects to a complete object; stronger and brighter together. It was wonderful to see how the setting sun coloured the hanging glass balls orange … it looked like happiness bubbles, whilst being a personal memento of home within their dream world … May your world be always such a happiness bubble, guys, you deserve it so much! You are so good!
xx, Eszter

Spirit of spring in herb fields // styled shoot

“Better is a dinner of herbs where love is…”  Proverbs 15:17

At this time of year the hillsides flourish with green plants and herbs such as wild sage and thyme, their fragrant smells scenting the air as you walk by. Inspired by these colours and scents we decided to create a shoot that brings to life the spirit of spring in Greece, showcasing the romance of the rural side of the island of Lefkada we both love.

For our ideas, we couldn’t have chosen better than the herb fields of Agrothen in the hidden valley of Alexandros village. The setting of dinner for the two lovers was the rustic garden filled with rosemary and wild celery of the Theologos house close to the herb fields. Each element was selected to focus the details of the herbs as decoration as well as their more common use in our daily lives as culinary ingredients.

The Dent’elle dress emphasised the organic and soft sensation of our theme. This classic draped dress in natural pale blue fabric with a vintage lace underskirt allowed us to show you along with the other details, how colours and their complimentary shades can work for the modern romantic bride.

During the whole planning process and the photo shoot we felt really relaxed knowing that all participating vendors and creatives felt this mood, gave their soul in their work and resulting in all the elements coming together like the pieces of a puzzle. Thank you to all our participants for your ‘meraki’!

So this is our herb themed wedding tale…
                                                                          …once upon a time…

xx, Eszter & Claire

Rustic-glamour elopement in Lefkada

Have you ever heard the expression ‘eloping’?

The actual meaning of the word elope is when two lovers run away together with the intention of getting married. These days, when people refer to eloping, they usually mean a destination wedding where the only people present are the bride and groom (sometimes a couple of witnesses or some friends).

Eszter and Nikos, a Hungarian-Greek couple escaped to the hidden villa Neion in Alexandros, Lefkada to say their “I do’s”, where they brought their vision for an elegant rustic-glamour wedding to life.

I love the reason behind why they decided to elope: they spend long monthes far from each other as Nikos works abroad… but Eszter had the dream to have a personal and intimate elopme wedding before their big fat Greek wedding. There is something so idyllic and romantic about the thought of exchanging your vows surrounded by nature.

Imagine an intimate ceremony when they say their vows to each other and a reception with delicious home-made food… all of these with the stunning backdrop of Neion… simple, stylish and filled with love – it’s everything an elopement should be…
